Machine Shop
The machine shop provides hands-on experience with tools like mills, lathes, CNC machines, laser cutters, and 3D printers. Working alongside staff, I help students safely and effectively complete engineering design projects while honing my own technical skills in fabrication and prototyping.
Luke's Lightsaber
I designed and machined a life-size lightsaber, similar to the one Luke Skywalker uses in the movies. Using both the lathe and mill, I created each component by hand, including the body, threads, and the angled grooves on the pommel. I am currently working towards implementing an LED light system for the saber.

Turner's Cube
Eager to put my skills to the test, I replicated the iconic Turner's cube using cold-rolled steel on a mill. This part features three concentric cubes, each pocketed using a four-fluted end mill. I then finished the cube with a chrome spray coat to give it a shine and keep it from rusting. In the future, I'm hoping to create a gyroscopic stand to display my cube, as shown in the SolidWorks assembly.
Copper Bolt-Action Pen
I designed and machined a custom copper bolt-action pen using the lathe and mill, fabricating each component by hand, including the body, threads, clip, and bolt-action mechanism. The project involved precision turning, threading, and fitting multiple parts to create a functional and durable writing tool.

Lathe Parts
Using the lathe, I’ve machined a range of precision parts including a lathe stud, spinning top, crank web, and more. These parts strengthened my understanding of turning, facing, threading, boring, and part geometry while building confidence in working with metal and tight tolerances.
Mill Parts
Through machining fundamental parts on the mill, I gained hands-on experience with drilling, basic CNC programming, and tapping. These parts taught me key skills in precision layout, tool selection, and machine setup, forming a strong foundation in milling operations and manual part fabrication.

ShopBot & Laser Cutter
I've gained experience working with wood using the ShopBot CNC router and laser cutter, learning the fundamentals of digital design and toolpath generation. On the ShopBot, using Aspire software, I designed and machined detailed wooden plaques, while the laser cutter allowed me to create custom name tags with precision engraving. These projects helped me develop skills in material setup, vector design, and CAD.
